Biography

___________________________________

Peggy Lynn, singer, songwriter and arts educator brings an infectious enthusiasm to all her endeavors. With a sultry, yet powerful alto voice, Peggy gives a clear message of the passion underlying her songs. While her style and range give meaning and feeling to all her work, her most powerful message, her passion, is for the contributions and burdens of women. Peggy ranges from folksy to blues with equal ease, alone or harmonizing with others.

With a BA in Women’s Studies to her credit, Peggy is going on to pursue a Masters degree in Women’s History. This study will provide more fuel for future songwriting to be sure. Through Arts in Education programs, Peggy brings to light the important role women played in shaping the history of New York. “Balancing the Scales: Women in Adirondack History” encourages students to look beyond the textbook to discover women’s amazing accomplishments.

Along with Sandra Weber, Peggy believes there needs to be a female role added to the record of Adirondack history. Together, they wrote Breaking Trail: Remarkable Women of the Adirondacks. Bringing these stories to the public stage in their program “Mountain Women Can Be Heroes”, Peggy and Sandra celebrate through song and story the comical, amazing and poignant experiences of Adirondack women as the unsung heroes.

With an AAS Degree in Forestry, a keen understanding and deep appreciation of the subject, Peggy has written songs and developed a memorable Arts in Education program using simple catchy melodies and scientific concepts to build the environmental awareness and interest in learning. The CDs “Bio Songs ~ Signs of Life” and “Close to the Sun” offer songs to demystify nature as science for children of all ages.

In 1996, Peggy was selected as the Adirondack Woman of the Year by the Adirondack Business & Professional Women’s Association. The Adirondack Girl Scout Council recognized Peggy in 1998 as an Adirondack Woman of Distinction. Both are peer recognized honors. In 2005, the Adirondack Mountain Club awarded Peggy the Arthur E. Newkirk Education award.

Peggy has recorded four solo CD’s and another four with either or both Dan Duggan and Dan Berggren. Collaboration with both these incredible musicians continues to enrich and expand the listener’s world with new, original works and fresh arrangements of traditional songs.

Inspiration comes from living. Many of Peggy’s songs reflect her own experiences, observations and opinions. As such there is continuously an evolution of new thought, experiences and thus new songs and presentations. As she says “music is still breaking out all over the place.”
