Peggy with Dan Duggan
Dan Duggan and Peggy Lynn are celebrating ten years of marriage and fifteen years of performing together. With a newly released album titled Esperance, named for their farm in Red Creek, NY, they showcase a few of their favorite genres: distinctive original songs, acoustic jazz standards, and instrumentals, both poignant and driving. Peggy’s talent for moving lyrics and Dan’s knack for unique, tasteful arrangements make this recording a fitting culmination of their composing and performing experience.
Peggy Lynn, referred to by poet Maurice Kenny as "The Voice of the Mountains," is recognized for her soulful songwriting and extraordinary vocal versatility. She is known for ballads of strong women, children’s songs about nature, and bluesy songs of life and love. With a Bachelors degree in Women’s Studies, and a Masters in History, Peggy’s work is grounded in traditional instrumental and vocal styles, but exhibiting a critical and philosophical perspective. She is passionate about her work with Creative Healing Connections, leading songwriting workshops for women’s retreats. For this work, she was named a recipient of the Altes Prize by SUNY Empire State College in 2013. Peggy champions the addition of women to the record of history with Breaking Trail: Remarkable Women of the Adirondacks, co-authored with Sandra Weber, for which the Adirondack Mountain Club honored her with their Arthur E. Newkirk Education Award in 2005.
Dan Duggan is known nationally for his wizardry on hammered dulcimer and flat-picking guitar, and is the recipient of the National Hammered Dulcimer Championship. He is a true multi-instrumentalist, equally at home on guitar, slide guitar, piano, banjo and his signature hammered dulcimer. Adding to his extensive array of recordings, Dan has recently released an album of original tunes called For the Love of Friends. He and Peggy have released two trio albums with Dan Berggren, the more recent titled Jamcrackers, and as a duo have released three previous recordings: Keeping Christmas, A Stitch in Time, and Be the Light. Dan’s children’s album, Pieces of Our Life, earned a Parent’s Choice Award in 1998. His dulcimer work can also be heard on Paul Simon's CD You’re the One, released in October of 2000.
Dan and Peggy combine original and traditional songs and tunes with masterful harmonies and inventive arrangements. On stage, their enthusiasm and humor charm audiences. The couple’s gift of insight is matched with dynamic songwriting and instrumental virtuosity.
